Since the announcement of Volvo to limit the speed of its vehicles to 180km/h from 2020, the Swedish brand offers the possibility to its customers to configure the parameters of its car in this direction.
So, after the introduction of the red key, this time it's about introducing Care Key - an orange colored key that allows you to set a speed limit for yourself, family members, friends or when visiting the Volvo workshop.
We explain Care Key in detail.
Red key vs. orange key, what's the difference?
Even if the color is different, in the end, the functionalities remain the same.
Whether you have an orange or red key, you can configure the adaptive cruise control, the sound volume from the car radio, the lane departure warning and limit the speed of your Volvo to a maximum of between 50 and 180 km/h.
Both keys also prevent the deactivation of parameters such as BLIS, the anti-collision system and automatic sign reading.
Finally, the orange key is standard on all new Volvos*.
*Note: If you buy a used Volvo that does not have a Care Key, one can be obtained from our service department
How do I use the Care Key?
First of all, if you don't have a Volvo orange key, you can also order one from our service department.
Setting up the Care Key
- Unlock the car with a regular remote control (not a Care Key).
- Once you are in the car with a Care Key in your possession, press "Settings" on the center screen.
- Tap "Profiles", then scroll down to "Care Key".
- Check the box to enable the restriction and set the desired restriction.
Using Care Key
When setting up a Care Key, it is impossible for the driver in possession of it to change the settings without a regular key nearby.
Also, to activate a driver profile without speed limit, the car must be unlocked with an ordinary key.
Finally, it is possible to program and use up to eleven Care Keys for the same car, one of which must be a regular key.
Do you have more questions about Volvo security features?
Care Key is not the only technology used by Volvo to achieve the goal of zero deaths in a Swedish car. But the best way to find out is to arrange a test drive of all these technologies in one of our demonstration vehicles.
