The Korean manufacturer's latest model, the GV60, aims to offer a luxurious, compact alternative to the electric city SUV market.

But is it really worth buyers' attention, especially when compared to the Volvo XC40?

For example, it features three screens, including two 12.3-inch ones on the dashboard, as well as fully customizable functions such as facial recognition, wireless charging and comprehensive driver assistance - all as standard.

Inside, the GV60 also boasts a number of unique features, including a rotating gear selector in the shape of an orbit, adding a futuristic touch to the driving experience.

But what really impresses are the interior materials, which reflect an attention to detail, with textured metal trim, quilted leather seats and a microsuede roof lining, creating a luxurious, refined atmosphere.

However, despite these innovative features, the GV60 has slightly less storage capacity than the Volvo XC40. A shame for a vehicle that claims to be a family car.

Volvo XC40

Now let's talk about our Volvo XC40 Recharge.

For its part, it offers a Scandinavian-style interior experience, focused on simplicity and functionality.

Equipped with a 9.0-inch touchscreen and 12.0-inch digital instrument panel, the XC40 offers practical features such as Apple CarPlay and Google Assistant as standard.

Seating comfort is not to be outdone, with front benches offering good support for the lower back. Rather pleasant for relaxed driving on our Quebec roads.

Also, although the XC40 has slightly less interior space than the Genesis GV60, it makes up for it with better rear visibility, which contributes to a more reassuring ride and makes maneuvering easier.

The duel over electric battery autonomy

The Volvo XC40, built on the new CMA (Compact Modular Architecture). The Genesis GV60 is based on the E-GMP platform shared with the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6.

As for powertrains, the GV60 offers two (with the same 77.4 kWh battery): 314 hp and 399 km of range, or 429 hp and 378 km of range.

Volvo XC40

As for the Volvo XC40, it also offers two engines: Single Motor and Twin Motor with 248 hp or 402 hp. Its WLTP range is 409 to 472 km (depending on engine), which is slightly longer than that of the GV60.

The starting price of the GV60 is $72,500, with the Performance version reaching $80,500. At these prices, you get a fully-equipped electric SUV offering unrivalled luxury.

Volvo XC40

Pricing for the Volvo XC40 starts at $59,950 for the Core trim level, rising to $74,750 for the Ultimate Twin Motor 4WD version.

Note that the Core trim level offers less standard equipment than the GV60.

However, with equivalent equipment and engines, the Volvo XC40 is more attractive to buy and lease, as it benefits from government rebates, such as the Roulez Vert incentive in Quebec and the federal incentive for zero-emission vehicles, reducing its purchase cost by $12,000.
