Today, technology is an integral part of modern vehicles with the goal of providing a safer, more comfortable and enjoyable driver experience every day.
But like all technology, these systems require regular updates to work optimally. So Volvo is implementing remote update procedures to allow owners of their vehicles to benefit from the latest enhancements and new features, without having to visit a dealership.
In this article, we'll explain how remote updates work at Volvo, so you can get the most out of your vehicle.
Upgrade your Volvo with Over The Air
Volvo is aware that a visit to the dealership can be an inconvenient part of your daily routine, so now you can update your car from home with Over The Air technology.
What is an Over The Air (OTA) update?
OTA (Over The Air) is a way to transfer and install software updates (in vehicles with integrated Google), without visiting the workshop of a Volvo dealer.
With OTA, software updates are transferred wirelessly to the vehicle and the user is notified via the center console display that a software update is available for installation.
When the user chooses to install the software, they must exit and lock the vehicle. The vehicle will be locked and unavailable during the entire installation process. The vehicle's anti-theft system will also be disarmed during the installation.
Finally, you should know that an OTA update can take up to 90 minutes. During this time, your vehicle will be locked and unavailable.
What are the benefits of upgrades?
Upgrading your vehicle gives you access to new features that develop over the years.
For example, you can benefit from updates on the 360 degree camera, navigation or Bluetooth connectivity.
Volvo expects between 4 and 6 updates per year.
From which model and year does this apply?
Not all Volvos can benefit from updates via OTA.
Starting in the year 2022, the following cars are eligible for OTA:
- XC60 B5 / XC60 Recharge (hybride rechargeable)
- XC40 Recharge Pure Electric
- S90 Recharge (hybride rechargeable)
From the year 2023, the entire range will benefit from OTA updates, except for certain versions of the Volvo XC40 model.
What is the procedure for upgrading?
In order to update your vehicle, we have created a tutorial video that explains the procedure to follow.
Until then, the entire Volvo Cars Saint Léonard team is at your disposal to answer any questions you may have about your vehicle's updates.
