2024 Volvo C40 Recharge: more range and reduced cost!

After the Volvo XC40 Recharge, the Swedish brand is offering a few new features for the Volvo C40 Recharge model year 2024, mainly on the powertrain.

What is the Volvo C40 Recharge?

The Volvo C40 Recharge is the second vehicle in the Recharge range!

Based on the same platform as the Volvo XC40, the Swedish brand aims to create an SUV with a more distinctive design, thanks to its coupé-like roofline.

Although it shares the same technology, components and infotainment, the Volvo C40 is only available in electric configuration, unlike the XC40, which can be sold in Canada in gasoline version.

Finally, the Volvo C40 Recharge is aimed at families who want an electric SUV with coupe-like styling.

What electric powertrains are available with the Volvo C40 Recharge (model year 2024)?

Like the Volvo XC40, the Swedish brand is focusing its attention on battery autonomy for the C40 Recharge model year 2024.

The start of rear-wheel drive

Did you know when the last rear-wheel drive Volvo was built? Back in 1998, the Volvo S90 sedan was sold with a 6-cylinder engine.

As a result, with the new entry-level variant, Volvo returns to rear-wheel drive with a 248 hp electric motor coupled to a new 82 kWh battery, providing a range of 476 km (previously 438 km).

This is made possible by the use of an asynchronous motor (the motor runs at a slower speed), which enables better energy management and thus an increase in range of 49 km.

What's new in the Volvo C40 Twin Motor

The Twin Motor version of the Volvo C40 Recharge has not been forgotten. The 2024 model retains its 402 hp, but uses an in-house-developed 183 kW permanent magnet electric motor on the rear axle and a new 117 kW asynchronous electric motor on the front axle.

As a result, the range of the C40 Recharge Twin Motor increases from 360 kilometers to 414 kilometers.

Finally, both versions boast a maximum charging power of 200 kW, reducing the waiting time to 28 minutes to increase the charge from 10% to 80%.

What is the price and availability of the Volvo C40 Recharge (model year 2024)?

With the introduction of a rear-wheel-drive version, Volvo makes its C40 Recharge less expensive to buy:

Core version: Available from $62,570 ($66,120 for the AWD version)
Plus version: Available from $70,620 ($73,120 for the AWD version)
Ultimate Version: Available from $74,870 ($77,370 for the AWD)

As for availability, deliveries are expected for autumn 2023.

All prices include transport and preparation costs. Added to this are air and tire taxes ($115) and administration fees ($399). These prices are also subject to change at any time without notice.

Is it eligible for government incentives?

With lower prices, the Volvo C40 Recharge is eligible for government rebates, but only according to certain criteria:

5,000$ provincial program (iVZE)
7,000$ "Roulez Vert" Quebec government program

As a result, you can benefit from a total rebate of $12,000 for all orders placed by a person living in the province of Quebec on the Volvo C40 Recharge Core. As a reminder, this rebate is applied after taxes.
