The renewal of the XC90 and XC60 is only the beginning for Volvo: the Swedish brand's line-up includes another completely new SUV, the XC40. More specifically, it is a compact crossover that benefits from the latest innovations developed by Volvo. This model has already been seen with the Volvo 40.1 concept, unveiled in 2016. The Volvo XC40 was officially presented in Milan on September 21st, 2017.

Volvo XC40 elected Car of the Year 2018

The 2019 Volvo XC40 was voted European Vehicle of the Year 2018. A first award for this Swedish compact SUV.

Versions available in 2018

In 2018, two versions will be available in Canada: Momentum and R-design. The others will surely follow in 2019. These future versions could even benefit from a different engine (see below).

2019 Volvo XC40 engine

The only engine on offer in Canada when the 2019 XC40 comes out next spring should be a 2.0L 4 cylinder turbocharged engine with 250 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. It will be delivered with the all-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Volvo XC40 Hybrid Plug-in or 100% Electric

As you know, Volvo has chosen to offer only 100% electric or rechargeable vehicles by 2019/2020. The Volvo XC40 will be an integral part of this program. According to some reports, the first Volvo XC40 hybrid or 100% electric could appear in 2019, and arriving to Canada in 2020. 

It will then be equipped with the T3 engine, the first 3-cylinder engine developed by Volvo, and an electric motor thus forming the T5 Twin Engine. Since the gasoline engine provides power to both front drive wheels, the rear wheels should be driven by the electric motor to offer a complete all-wheel drive system.

The price of the 2019 XC40 in Canada

The price of this new Volvo XC40 starts at $39,900. This price does not include transport, taxes and preparation. 

New for this 2019 Volvo XC40: Care by Volvo. This new form of rental should see the light of day with this new compact SUV. Theprice would include all costs related to the use of a car, except gasoline. However, it is not sure that customers could benefit from this subscription in Quebec at this current time.

The XC40 available in Canada in the spring of 2018

After several months of long waiting, the 2019 Volvo XC40 will be released in Canada in early 2018. The first deliveries are expected in April.

We draw your attention to the fact that without a pre-order, you would have less chance to get the XC40 in 2018. Indeed, the limited number of models provided by Volvo in Canada will certainly not make it possible to have models other than those pre-ordered during this first year.

The 2019 Volvo XC40 is made in Belgium

Contrary to popular belief, the 2019 Volvo XC40 will be manufactured in Europe and more specifically in Belgium at the factory of Gand.

The Chinese owners are even considering of expanding the Belgian factory in order to include the manufacture of model 01. This SUV is actually the cousin of the Volvo XC40, but manufactured by Lynk & Co whose Chinese owners are the same as Volvo.
